Woman dies after brutal rape in Saki Naka: one arrested
A 32 year old woman, a mother of two died after being subjected to sexual assault in the early hours of Friday in Saki Naka area of Mumbai. Based on the CCTV footage of several cameras covering the scene of the crime and its nearby areas, the police has identified and arrested 45 year old Mohan Chauhan who is a resident of Kurla. He was produced in court on Saturday afternoon and remanded to police custody till September 21. According to the police, a watchman of a cardboard company on Khairani Road in Saki Naka called the police control room and reported that a woman was being assaulted by a by a man inside a tempo near the factory. Hemant Nagrale, Commissioner of Police, told the media on Saturday that personnel from the Saki Naka police station reached the spot within ten minutes and found the victim. He said that they obtained the keys of the tempo and went straight to Rawalpindi Hospital in Ghatkopar where victim was admitted in unconscious condition
According to officials working on the case , Chauhan is alleged to have pulled the victim inside the tempo and brutalized her with an iron rod , inflicting serious injuries to her torso as well as her private parts. The victim succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning. The police have subsequently added the section for murder under the Indian Penal Code. A statement could not be recorded from the victim before she died. Nagrale said that a Special Investigaton Team (SIT) has been set up with Assistant Commissioner of Police Jyotsana Rasam as investigating officer. Investigation will be completed within a month and chargesheet will be filed against the accused.
Maharashtra Chief Minister announced that case would be tried in a fast track court. He has also directed police to identify areas in the city which are unsafe for women. Addressing a meeting of senior police officers he said that Nirbhaya Squads with women police officers should be set up in every police station. Meanwhile , Leader of opposition in State Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis described the crime as a blot on Mumbai which is considered a safe city for women. A team of National Commission for Women on Sunday, met the family members of the victim and team also visited the crime spot as well as the hospital where she was treated , according to a police official.
Maharashtra celebrating 10 Ganesh festival
Maharashtra is celebrating Gansh Utsav. The 10 day festival ends on September 19. Meanwhile, people are celebrating the puja in their home. The state government has bar devotees to visit pandals during Ganesh Chaturthi in view of the coronavirus pandemic. Only online darshan or telecast from pandals would be allowed, said the state Home department. The decision has been taken to discourage people from venturing out and exposing themselves to the viral infection, said an official.
Shiv Sena decided to go to UP& Goa
And, Shiv Sena seems to be in a mood to take on BJP in the BJP ruled states. Shiv Sena has decided to fight forthcoming assembly election in UP and Goa in 2022. The party leader and MP Sanjay Raut said on Sunday that the party will contest Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on 100 seats. UP has 403 constituencies. In Goa the Shiv Sena will contest elections on more than 20 seats, we may form an alliance, he added.“We are in talks with several organisations and parties to cobble electoral alliances. Some farmers organizations in Uttar Pradesh have told us that if the Sena contests the polls, they would support us. Even some small parties have offered to support… We intend to contest anywhere from 80 to 90 seats in Uttar Pradesh,” Raut said.
