The domestic share market closed lower on Wednesday following a volatile session, as selling pressure dragged Nifty below the 25,500 mark amid investor caution ahead of President Trump’s upcoming trade announcements.At close, the Sensex was down 176.43 points or 0.21 percent at 83,536.08, and the Nifty was down 46.40 points or 0.18 percent at 25,476.10.
Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance, HUL, UltraTech Cement, Coal India were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Tata Steel, HCL Technologies, Hindalco Industries, Apollo Hospitals, Tech Mahindra.On the sectoral front, Metal, Realty and Oil & Gas indices down 1.4 percent each, media, IT, PSU Bank down 0.5 percent each, while FMCG, auto, Consumer Durables up 0.3-0.8 percent.Broader indices outperformed the main indices with BSE midcap index was ended flat, while smallcap index added 0.5 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 9 July'25 the Indian rupee ended 2 paise higher to close at 85.68 against the US dollar on Wednesday,following optimism over a possible trade deal with the US and a delay in the imposition of reciprocal tariffs.A firm US dollar in overseas markets and crude oil staying near $70 per barrel capped the gains in the local currency, forex traders stated.
