Indian ministers meet Singapore PM to strengthen strategic partnership

Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal and Jitin Prasada on Thursday met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at The Istana, with discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and accelerating the roadmap for the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.“The leaders discussed the progress made in implementing the Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across economic cooperation, digitalisation, connectivity, skills development and sustainability,” the Ministry of Finance said in a post on X.

According to agency reports, Sitharaman, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister, is leading the Indian ministerial delegation for the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) and the fourth India-Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR), aimed at deepening trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries. The fourth ISMR, being held on August 20, is reviewing progress since the third roundtable in New Delhi in August 2025 and exploring new avenues to accelerate implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Roadmap.
Established in 2022, the ISMR serves as a high-level economic mechanism between India and Singapore. It provides a platform to review progress and identify new areas of cooperation across six key pillars — advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skills development, and sustainability.Singapore remains a major economic partner for India. It was India’s largest source of foreign direct investment in FY2025-26, accounting for USD 19.8 billion in inflows, according to the Commerce Ministry. Cumulative FDI from Singapore stood at USD 194.68 billion between April 2000 and March 2026.Bilateral trade has also recorded substantial growth, increasing from USD 6.7 billion in FY2004-05 to USD 36.1 billion in FY2025-26
The ministerial-level engagement comes amid efforts by both countries to further expand cooperation in emerging economic sectors and strengthen the institutional framework underpinning their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
