Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the address of the President to the two Houses was similar to the one made last year, and claimed that it was the same "laundry list" of things the government has done. Participating in a debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address on January 31, Gandhi said successive governments, be it the UPA or the present NDA, have not been able to tackle unemployment and give a clear-cut answer to youth about employment. He also said 'Make in India' was a good idea, but the prime minister "pretty much failed".
The future of this country is going to be decided by the youth of India. I think anything we say has to be addressed to them.

Earlier, he began his Motion of Thanks on the President's speech on a surprisingly amiable note, acknowledging that neither the Congress-led UPA nor the BJP-led NDA, which has ruled the country since 204, had been able to solve the jobs crisis.
Earlier, moving the motion, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri of the BJP listed the works done by the Narendra Modi-led government and the public welfare schemes. He attacked the AAP-ruled Delhi government for allegedly not implementing various central schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, in the national capital and for denying people basic healthcare, housing, and other facilities. In Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge said that nothing new was in the President's address. Many failed things have been presented as a success story, he alleged.

Earlier, initiating the discussion, BJP member Kiran Choudhry said the government has taken monumental initiatives to double the income of farmers. Stating that the opposition is holding a false campaign against the Government over its efforts for the Agriculture sector, the BJP member said instead the UPA government had kept the recommendations of Dr Swaminathan’s Committee under cold storage. She further said the Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several measures to ensure farmers get more income for their produce. She also said the country is currently moving towards Viksit Bharat in a real sense.
