The Salt March or the Dandi March, was an act of non-violent civil disobedience led by Mahatma Gandhi during colonial rule in India. On March 12, 1930, Gandhi began the historic march from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and travelled nearly 390 kilometres to the coastal village of Dandi to protest against the tax imposed by the British on salt. The 24-day march eventually sparked the mass Civil Disobedience Movement, becoming one of the most significant episodes in India’s freedom struggle and symbolising the power of non-violent resistance against colonial rule.
