Prime Modi Narendra Modi hosted the champions of the Women’s World Cup at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Wednesday. Modi congratulated the women cricket team on their victory and praised their remarkable comeback in the tournament after a string of three defeats. The Prime Minister also referred to the trolling the players had faced on social media after the early setbacks and praised them for showing exemplary mental strength to bounce back and script history.

During the meeting, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled meeting Modi in 2017, when they had met him without the trophy. She expressed hope that they would meet him more often with the trophy. Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana said that the Prime Minister had motivated them and has been an inspiration for all of them. She also spoke about how girls are excelling in all fields today, and credited the Prime Minister for being a source of encouragement. Deepti Sharma recalled her 2017 meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when the Prime Minister had advised to keep working hard.
