Gulveer bags 2nd silver,Vithiya claims bronze in women's 400m hurdles

Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh secured a silver medal in the men's 1500m final with a personal best effort of 3:36.72 at the Asian Games in Japan's Nagoya on Monday. Gulveer, who had already won a silver in the 10,000m in the ongoing edition, finished behind gold medallist Kazuto Iizawa of Japan, while compatriot Nagiya Mori won the bronze with an effort of 3:37.92. The other Indian, Yoonus Shah, finished ninth with an effort of 3:43.88.

Earlier,Vithiya Ramraj delivered a historic performance in the women's 400m hurdles, winning bronze with a personal best of 54.75 seconds and breaking a national record that had stood for more than four decades created by the legendary P T Usha. The 28-year-old from Coimbatore finished behind UAE's Mariam Kareem, who won gold in a Games-record 54.31 seconds, and Kazakhstan's Adelina Zems, who took silver in a personal best of 54.58. Vithya bettered the 55.42 seconds recorded by legendary Indian athlete PT Usha at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

It was her second medal at the Games, following silver in the 4x400m mixed relay. India's Anu Raghavan finished fifth in the final with a personal best of 55.88 seconds.
