PM Modi inaugurates 594-km Ganga Expressway in UP’s Hardoi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district, marking a major boost to high-speed road connectivity and economic infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.Built at an estimated cost of Rs36,230 crore, the six-lane (expandable to eight lanes) access-controlled greenfield corridor connects key regions across the state, linking western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh through a seamless high-speed route.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP president Pankaj Choudhary were present at the inauguration ceremony.
According to information, the expressway passes through 12 districts—Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj—creating a vital transportation backbone across the state.The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10–12 hours to nearly six hours, improving mobility and logistics efficiency.A key feature of the expressway is a 3.5-km-long emergency landing facility in Shahjahanpur district, designed to function as an airstrip for defence aircraft during emergencies, adding strategic value to the project.

According to officials the expressway is being developed as a major economic corridor, with integrated manufacturing and logistics hubs planned over nearly 2,635 hectares along its route. The initiative is expected to reduce logistics costs, strengthen supply chains, and enhance industrial competitiveness.
The corridor is also set to benefit farmers by providing improved access to urban and export markets, enabling better price realisation and boosting rural incomes. Additionally, it is expected to spur tourism and create employment opportunities across the region.The Ganga Expressway will form a crucial part of Uttar Pradesh’s expanding expressway network, complementing existing and proposed corridors such as the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and planned link routes, helping to ensure balanced regional development across the state.Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also planted a sapling in Hardoi, highlighting environmental commitment alongside infrastructure growth.
