Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday departed on a three-nation tour to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, stating that the visit will reinforce India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and its commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The July 6-11 visit is aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships, expanding economic cooperation, and deepening people-to-people ties with the three Indo-Pacific nations.
In his departure statement, Modi said his visits to Indonesia and Australia in the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean, followed by New Zealand, reflect India's growing engagement with the Indo-Pacific region."My visit to Indonesia and Australia in the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean respectively, followed by New Zealand will further strengthen India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision as well as our outlook towards a free and open Indo-Pacific," the Prime Minister said.MAHASAGAR, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions, is India's vision for promoting security, growth, and cooperation across the maritime region.

According to agency reports,Modi will begin his tour in Indonesia from July 6 to 8 at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. The Prime Minister noted that India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his 2018 visit to the country."This will be my first bilateral visit since the elevation of our ties and follows President Prabowo's State Visit to India as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January 2025," he said.Highlighting the centuries-old cultural links between the two countries, Modi said India and Indonesia share strong civilisational and people-to-people ties. During the visit, he will also interact with the Indian diaspora and visit the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta along with President Prabowo.
From Indonesia, Modi will travel to Melbourne from July 8 to 10 at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.The Prime Minister said discussions with Albanese will focus on advancing the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across defence and security, trade and investment, education, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges."My visit will strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," Modi said, adding that both countries will also seek to expand cooperation in emerging and critical technologies, sports, and sports science.
He is also scheduled to interact with the Indian diaspora in Melbourne, describing the community as an important pillar of bilateral relations.The final leg of the tour will take Modi to Auckland from July 10 to 11 at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.The Prime Minister said the visit builds on the momentum created during Luxon's visit to India in March 2025 and will focus on enhancing economic, trade, and commercial engagement between the two countries.Modi noted that India and New Zealand have committed to strengthening bilateral trade and commercial ties through the signing of a Free Trade Agreement. He also highlighted the significant contribution of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand and said he looks forward to addressing a large gathering of the community during the visit.
