In a sudden move, opposition parties have decided to support OBC Bill-2021 in Parliament. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday said opposition parties will support Constitution 127th amendment bill 2021 in the Parliament. Talking to media outside Parliament, he said this bill is in the interest of Backward Classes and poor of the country. Kharge said they want to have discussion on the Bill in both the Houses. Leaders of Shiv Sena, DMK, Samajwadi Party and NCP leaders were also present . These parties have also given their support to the Bill.
Earlier, The Constitution 127th Amendment Bill, 2021 was introduced in the Lok Sabha. The bill seeks to restore the power of States and Union Territories to make their own OBC lists. Introducing the Bill, Social Justice Minister Dr Virendra Kumar said the Chief Ministers of opposition ruled states have also made the demand for this legislation. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the opposition is in support of the Bill. He said the government has brought this legislation as the OBC community is agitated.
Parliament has passed the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 with the Lok Sabha clearing it on Monday amid din. The Rajya Sabha has already approved the Bill. It seeks to amend the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation Act, 1961. The Bill seeks to provide depositors time-bound access to their insured deposit amount, in case they are restricted from accessing their bank deposits. It provides that the Corporation will be liable to pay the insured deposit amount to depositors on an interim basis. The Bill mandates the Corporation to pay the insured amount to the depositors within 90 days of the date such liability arises.
Speaking on the Bill, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the legislation is aimed at supporting the small depositors. She said depositors of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank, Sri Guru Raghavendra Sahakar Bank and others will be benefited with this move. The Minister said the insurance cover limit has been raised from one lakh to five lakh. The House passed the legislation without any discussion.
