A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Monday morning, police said. The gun battle erupted in a forested patch of the Abhujmaad area, near the Maharashtra border, during a search operation.According to officials, the operation was launched after inputs were received about the presence of Naxalites in the region. “So far, the body of a male Naxalite has been recovered, while intermittent exchange of fire is still continuing,” a senior police officer said.
With this action, 248 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters across Chhattisgarh this year. Of these, 219 were neutralised in the Bastar division, which comprises seven districts, while 27 were eliminated in Gariaband district of the Raipur division. Two others were killed in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district in Durg division.On September 11, security forces had carried out one of the biggest anti-Naxal operations of the year, killing 10 Naxalites, including senior CPI (Maoist) central committee member Modem Balakrishna, in Gariaband district,according to information.
