In MP, at least nine people have died and several others have been hospitalised after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Sagar district of Bundelkhand region. Around three dozen residents from three to four villages in Banda tehsil were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Banda from Sunday morning. More than 25 of them were later referred to Bundelkhand Medical College and the District Hospital in Sagar. The first casualty was reported at the Banda Civil Hospital on Saturday evening, when a man who was brought there in gasping condition died despite sustained efforts by doctors to revive him. District Magistrate Pratibha Pal says, "There have been reports of illnesses and deaths allegedly caused by the consumption of illicit liquor since morning, and an investigation is underway at the Civil Hospital.Our team of doctors and the SDM team are also present in the surrounding areas, including the two identified villages of Naura and Ghugru, for screening. Anyone experiencing symptoms or who has consumed any type of liquor in the last 24 to 48 hours should get screened by a doctor."

As per reports, the worst-hit villages include Nauraj, Ghoogra Khurd, Baraj and Bamura Bheda, where residents reportedly fell ill after consuming liquor on Saturday evening. MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered a probe into the incident, asserting that no guilty person would be spared. The district administration sealed seven liquor shops in the affected area as a precaution and ordered immediate sampling, officials said.
