In Maharashtra, at least 11 people died in the incident and 7 others were injured when a four-storey building in Malvani area of Malad West in Mumbai collapsed at 11.10 pm on Wednesday night. Many are still feared trapped under the debris and evacuation operations are underway, officials said. Mumbai civic body BMC is also evacuating people from another three-storey structure nearby which is in a dilapidated condition, they said. Injured have been admitted a hospital in suburban Kandivali. According to Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh, the building collapsed due to heavy rains in the city.
Mumbai, on Wednesday, witnessed heavy rain through the day resulted water logging in many parts of the metro city and even resulted in the closure of roads and rail tracks. IMD has issued an 'orange alert' for various districts, including Mumbai, for the next four days.
