The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken note of an incident involving an Air India flight bound for Mumbai that returned to Delhi shortly after take-off on Monday following the detection of a technical issue, officials said.According to an Air India spokesperson, the flight, AI-887, made a precautionary air turn back to ensure passenger safety after the crew identified a technical snag soon after departure.A source at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the flight crew observed low engine oil pressure in the right-hand engine during flap retraction after take-off. The engine oil pressure subsequently dropped to zero, prompting the decision to return to the origin airport. An inspection of the aircraft is currently under way.
Air India said that a review of previous records did not indicate any abnormality in oil consumption. The airline added that the decision to return to Delhi was taken in accordance with standard operating procedures. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi airport, and all passengers and crew disembarked normally. No injuries were reported. The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off at around 6.30 am. The flight was operated using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and remained airborne for about an hour, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.The Ministry of Civil Aviation has sought a detailed report from Air India, while the DGCA has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
