The Mizoram police has filed a case against the Assam CP Hemant Sarma and and other top officials of the neighboruing state. In the complaint, Mizoram police has accused a team of “200 fully armed” Assam Police personnel led by its IGP of intimidating its own team of 20 officers and attempting to “forcefully occupy” their police camp calling it an encroachment of reserve forest. The FIR was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including "attempt to murder", at the Vairengte Police Station in Kolasib district of Mizoram, which borders Assam's Cachar.
The report said Assam police personnel, acting under instructions from Sarma himself, refused to have an "amicable dialogue" with the Mizoram police on the day of the incident. Upon learning of this incident, SP Kolasib and party immediately rushed to the area and tried their level best to have an amicable dialogue with Assam Police, but they were not ready to listen to sane argument and instead forcefully informed SP Kolasib that the area falls within Assam territory. It further states that the Assam Police team had arrived at the spot with tents and other materials accompanied by 20 vehicles with the sole aim of constructing a camp by forcibly occupying the Mizoram BOP.
Assam and Mizoram have been engaged in an ugly border row. Seven people were killed and 50 others, including an SP, injured in an exchange of fire between the police forces of Assam and Mizoram along their inter-state border. The Kolasib district administration in Mizoram has declared a number of areas as 'no flying' zones for drones. The areas affected by this order include Vairengte and Aitlang. Even the Army will have to seek the permission of the district magistrate to operate drones in the areas in question. The Central Reserve Police Force has increased its deployment in these regions, with five companies standing between the police forces of Assam and Mizoram.
