Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said, the Union Budget has laid the roadmap for the development of the country’s economy for the next 25-years, called the Amritkaal. Addressing the Doordarshan Conclave on the Budget in Chennai on Monday afternoon, she said 7.5 lakh crore rupees has been earmarked for augmenting infrastructure alone in the budget. She said there is a provision to make one-lakh crore rupees available to the states for spending for infrastructure projects as interest free loans with a repayment period of fifty years. Ms Sitharaman said, for every rupee that is spent on infrastructure, there would be a return of 2.35 rupee in one year and upto 3.45 rupee in the next two to three years as it has a multiplier-effect on the economy. When asked about the impact of the ongoing Ukraine war on the nation’s economy, minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, different central departments dealing with the economy are assessing the situation and a clear picture would arise after some time.
-On the second day of Budget session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Oraon presented the third supplementary budget of Rs.2698.14 crore for the current fiscal. Earlier, with the commencement of the proceedings of the House today at 11 am, MLAs of Bhartiya Janta Party created a ruckus in the house demanding the status of Leader of Opposition to senior party leader Babulal Marandi.
-Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has chaired a Regional Conference of Ministers of the Public Health Engineering Department, rural water Supply and sanitation department of the North-Eastern States in Guwahati on Monday.The regional conference has focused on important issues pertaining to implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). Addressing the event, Shekhawat stressed on the sustainability of the water supply projects under Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that everyone should work to ensure that there would be no disruption in drinking water facilities. Assam PHE minister Ranjit Kumar Dass among other also attended the program. The conference has set up the roadmap for the North-Eastern States development.
-In a major development, Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC has decided to close more Covid-19 centres from Tuesday, March1. As the cases of Corona are on decline, the BMC has taken this decision. Also, the magnitude in the intensity of patients needing hospitalization has also come down. BMC additional commissioner Suresh Kakani said that, occupancy number is very low and it is not necessary to run all the centres. Last week, civic body already announced to close centres at Dahisar, NESCO in Goregaon, Mulund and Kanjurmarg. Meanwhile, in a related development, state health minister Rajesh Tope said that, even if the third Corona wave is under control, we should not go in hurry for declaring Maharashtra mask free as of now. He was speaking to media in Jalna. Tope said that, government is mulling for removing many curbs. But, it has to do with a lot of thinking before taking a decision about making the state entirely mask free.
-Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday said, that mentoring young talent is the best investment for India @2047. He said, young scientists with 25 active years ahead have a crucial role to play in the roadmap for the next 25 years when India celebrates 100 years of independence. Dr. Jitendra Singh was speaking at the concluding function of National Science Week on the National Science Day to mark “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate”. The event is a pan-India program to celebrate the essence and magnificence of country's scientific achievements. The Minister said that the spirit of this one-week commemoration of “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” is to celebrate and worship science. He said it is an opportunity to introspect and look at how we make up for what we did not have.
