The domestic share market extended their losing streak to four sessions on Thursday, amid firm energy prices, bond yield volatility and renewed rate-hike fears.At close, the Sensex was down 570.59 points or 0.79 percent at 71,909.70, and the Nifty was down 198.50 points or 0.88 percent at 22,421.95.
For the week, BSE Sensex shed 2.7% and Nifty fell 3%, extended the losing streak for the 8 straight weeks for the first time in 25 years.Indian stock markets will remain shut on October 2 on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
HDFC Life, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Bank, Infosys and TCS were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Bajaj Auto, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports.On the sectoral front, Information Technology index added 2 percent and Telecom index gained 0.5 percent.While, Auto, Media, FMCG, Infra, Metal, Consumer Durable and Realty down 2-3 percent, while Energy, Pharma, PSU Bank, Oil & Gas down more than 1 percent each, according to agency reports.Broader indices underperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap index falling more than 1 percent and Nifty Smallcap index losing nearly 1 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 1 Oct'26,the Indian rupee depreciated below the psychologically important 96 per dollar mark on Thursday to close at 96.31 (provisional) against the US dollar, the lowest level in more than two months, on risk aversion in global markets amid surging global bond yields and selling pressure from foreign investors.Forex traders said the rupee is expected to trade with a negative bias amid risk aversion in global markets and worries over rising global treasury yields.
