The Coal Ministry on Tuesday issued a notice regarding revision in timeline for Auction of coal mines. It stated that in continuation to the Notice Inviting Tender dated 25th of March this year, the last date for registration of bidder and sale of tender documents, and the Bid Due Date have been revised. The Bid Due Date has been extended to 8th of July.
-Amidst the alarming Corona situation, the monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature will be held in Mumbai only for two days on July 5 and 6. Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Working Advisory Committee in Mumbai today, Maharashtra Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab informed that the two-day session will not have a question answer session. He further said that only supplementary demand and appropriation bills and other important bills will be taken up for discussion.
-In Meghalaya, three hospitals in Tura (West Garo Hills district), Nongpoh (Ri Bhoi district) and Jowai (West Jaintia Hill district) now have emergency oxygen supply available, to provide intensive care treatment to the critically ill COVID-19 patients. The plants utilise pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology to produce up to 800 litres of oxygen per minute.A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office stated that a total of eight oxygen generation plants are being installed in the Northeast states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura with the help of the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The plants have the capacity to serve approximately 1,300 beds.
-Karnataka State Government will provide tap water connection to 25 lakh rural households this year under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed this to media persons in Bengaluru after reviewing the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission along with RDPR minister K S Eeshwarappa. There are about 91.91 lakh rural households and over 28 lakh households have functional tap water connection in the state. The Chief Minister has directed officials to provide 25.17 lakh rural tap water connections in the current financial year. He said that the central government flagship programme has to be implemented within the given timeline. He added that a video conference will be held with the Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats to speed up the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.
-The Defence Ministry has signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Ltd for construction of two Pollution Control Vessels for Indian Coast Guard. The Defence Ministry has said that it has been done at a cost of about Rs 583 crore. It said that the acquisition is under ‘Buy Indian - Indigenously Designed Developed & Manufactured’, the highest priority category for defence capital procurements. The acquisition will significantly augment the capability of Indian Coast Guard to respond to Oil spill disasters at sea and enhance Pollution Response efficiency. The vessels, with capability of operating helicopters onboard, will have many advanced features with modern Pollution Response equipment of niche technology for containing, recovering and dispersing marine oil spills. These two vessels are scheduled for delivery by November 2024 and May 2025 respectively. The ministry added that while meeting the objectives of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the contract would further boost the indigenous shipbuilding capability and increase employment opportunities in the shipbuilding sector.
