The Government has made two appointments on Saturday related to the Indian Army. Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan appointed as the next Chief of Naval Staff. He is presently the Western Naval Commander in Mumbai and will take charge on May 31 and his tenure will be up to December 31, 2028. Vice Admiral Swaminathan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1987 and is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla; the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Shrivenham, United Kingdom; the College of Naval Warfare, Karanja; and the United States Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.The present Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM will be retiring from service on May 31, 2026.
Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani (Retd) has been appointed the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on Saturday. He will also function as Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs. The retired Army officer will replace General Anil Chauhan, who will be completing his tenure as CDS on May 30 this year. Lt Gen Subramani (Retd) is presently serving as military adviser in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and earlier served as Vice Chief of Army Staff and GOC-in-C, Central Command. The current CDS, General Anil Chauhan, is scheduled to complete his tenure on May 30, 2026.
