Lakshya Sen wins BWF Australian Open Super 500 title

India's Lakshya Sen wins Australian Open Super 500 title beating Japan's Yushi Tanaka 21-15 21-11 in the final in just 38 minutes of the USD 475,000 Australian Open Super 500 in Sydney on Sunday. It was a controlled and confidence-building performance from the Indian world No 14 and will give him a much-needed boost after what has been a challenging 2025 season.The seventh-seeded Indian was the better player throughout the final, mixing his naturally defensive game with a good dose of attacking badminton and deft touches at the net to show his improved range. Lakshya took the lead early on in the final and never let it slip against his unseeded opponent who let the occasion get to him.

With this victory, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion became only the second Indian to win a BWF World Tour title this season, following Ayush Shetty’s maiden Super 300 triumph at the US Open.
