In Kolkata, a special court for MPs and MLAs has summoned Union Home Minister Amit Shah to appear before it in connection with a defamation case filed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and party chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee.The court has asked Amit Shah to appear on February 22.The judge directed that Amit Shah's attendance either personally or through a lawyer is necessary to answer to a charge of defamation under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In a press note, Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee's lawyer Sanjay Basu claimed that Amit Shah had made certain defamatory statements against the Trinamool MP on August 11, 2018 at a rally of the BJP at Mayo Road in Kolkata.
During the rally Shah had accused Abhishek of corruption. "Narada, Sharda, Rose Valley, Syndicate's Corruption, Nephew's corruption, a series of corruption has been by Mamataji," Amit Shah told the rally in Kolkata, according to the defamation case filed by Abhishek Banerjee.
