Kerala is adding to more than half of the current Covid-19 cases in India. "Kerala is contributing to more than 51 per cent of the cases. Kerala reported 31,445 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday and the toll mounted to 19,972 with 215 new deaths.According to Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan Kerala is the only state reporting over 1 lakh active Covid-19 cases, while four states have 10,000 to 1 lakh active cases and 31 states have less than 10,000 active cases.Bhushan shared some points on Kerala's Covid-19 surge that were highlighted by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
-Testing in Kerala needs to be increased.
-Contact tracing is needed. Kerala is only tracing less than two people per infected person.
-People in home isolation need to be strictly monitored. More than 80 per cent Covid patients are in home Isolation in Kerala.
Bhushan further stated that 279 districts in India had reported more than 100 cases in the first week of June and that the number came down to 107 in July's opening week. He added, "Today we have about 41 districts which have a weekly positivity rate of 10 per cent." The health ministry also informed that 46.69 crore first doses of vaccine have been administered in India so far, while 13.70 crore people have been vaccinated completely. Meanwhile, India reported 46,164 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, said the health ministry on Thursday. During the same time, 34,159 people recovered from the disease.
