The Kerala government has appointed Anil Kant as the new DGP. Kant succeeds Loknath Behra who retired from the service on Wednesday. A decision in this regard was taken at the cabinet meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. A 1988 batch officer, Kant is presently serving as the Road Safety Commissioner in the state. A native of Delhi, Kant also holds a masters degree in political science. He will retire in January next year. He is still Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and would be promoted to the DGP rank only by the end of next month,
In UP, new DGP could not be appointed and Prashant Kumar.ADG(Law and Oreder) has been given the additional charge of the DGP till a regular incumbent is appointed. HC Awasthi retired as DGP of Wednesday.
