The second big mountaineering expedition successfully completed by the ITBP within 27 days in covid19 era. ITBP mountaineers of Sector Head Quarter Dehradun climbed (6590 mts /21615ft) high Gangotri II peak on 26 September, 2020 The mountaineers of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully climbed the Gangotri II peak (21,615 Ft) in Uttarakhand on 26 September, 2020 to record the second such ascent in the Covid19 hit times. On 31 August, 2020 the mountaineers of the Force successfully completed the summit to Mt Leo Pargil, Himachal Pradesh.
Total 9 members of ITBP team from Sector Head Quarters ITBP Dehradun climbed the peak successfully at 0820 AM on 26 September, 2020 after continuous 8 hours climb on the day. The leader of this extremely challenging expedition was Deputy Commandant Dipender Singh Mann and Deputy Leader was Assistant Commandant Bheem Singh. Head Constable Rajesh Chandra Ramola, Constable Pradeep Panwar, Santender Kundi, Harender Singh, Ashok Singh Rana, Arun Prasad, and Goving Prasad also reached to the summit. These team members took all training and did acclimatisation inspite of limitations of corona crisis. The 53 member mountaineering expedition was launched on 9 September, 2020 from Uttarkashi.
Gangotri II peak is considered one of the technical peak in India to climb. The team established 5 base camps in the mission.This snow covered difficult peak is located in Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand. ITBP is considered as one of the fittest and toughest force as it has been working in extremely cold high altitude terrain and climate conditions. The Force as a pioneer mountain force is credited with 214 successful mountaineering expeditions since its raising, which is a record.
