The Government will launch a month-long nationwide Clean India Drive to clean waste, mainly single-use plastic from 1st October to 31st October this year. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has said that it is our resolve to create a plastic-free India, an India of Gandhiji’s dreams and as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which Swachchta occupies the topmost priority. The Minister has urged everybody to join the drive with fervor and help achieve the goal of Sankalp Se Siddhi. Thakur said, it will be the largest cleanliness drive of the world in which more than 75 lakh tonnes of waste, primarily plastic waste, from different parts of the country will be collected and further processed in a Waste to Wealth model. He said, the drive aims to propagate the mantra of Clean India: Safe India.
-In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, two unidentified terrorists were neutralised in a fierce gunfight that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Watrina village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday. J&K Police said that a joint team of police and 14 Rashtriya Rifles launched a cordon and search operation in Watrina village. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight which resulted into the killing of two terrorists.Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists.
-A Weaver Services and Design Resource Center will be set up in Kullu to encourage attractive handicraft products of Himachal Pradesh besides providing a better platform for export of these products in the international market.Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Textiles Piyush Goyal made this announcement during an interaction programme with handicraft and handloom artisans under Seva and Samarpan campaign on the occasion of golden jubilee of the statehood of Himachal Pradesh in Kullu district on Sunday. The Union minister said, Himachal Pradesh has immense potential for handicrafts and skill up-gradation of artisans, modern equipments and training would be imparted to prepare qualitative new designs in the Weavers Service Center. He said more attention was needed to modernize the design, quality, packaging and marketing so that the weavers get better price for their products in the international market.
-India is all set to achieve the 100 crore Covid-19 vaccination mark. In a tweet, My Gov India said, to celebrate the 100-crore vaccination mark, it has invited people to design an innovative and visually striking logo or mascot. It said, the logo or mascot should represent the theme – India’s Journey of Completing 100 Crore Vaccinations. The last date of the contest is 10th October this year. The winner of the selected logo will win a cash prize of 25 thousand rupees.
-Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday advised the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR to reinvent itself and turn futuristic while pursuing the science of the highest order. Participating in the 80th Foundation Day celebrations of CSIR in New Delhi, Naidu asked scientists to focus on farmers’ problems and challenges like climate change. He urged corporates and industries to form close linkages with leading scientific institutions, identify important Research and development projects and invest in them. He said, this will not only boost funding but also improve both quality and innovation. Vice President lauded scientists, doctors and vaccine manufacturers for leading the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
