Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Port Louis on Tuesday. The two leaders held discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.The leaders reviewed bilateral relations, ongoing collaborations & explored new avenues to elevate special bond to even greater heights. PM affirmed that India was proud to be a valued and trusted development partner for Mauritius and the two countries would work together for promoting the interests of the Global South. PM thanked PM Ramgoolam for the highest civilian award of Mauritius, G.C.S.K (Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean) to be bestowed on him.
Earlier, addressing the Indian diaspora here at an event, attended by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, his wife and cabinet ministers, Modi assured the southeast African island nation of all-around support in development, including the building of a new Parliament.Terming Mauritius as a bridge between India and the Global South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the island nation is part of India's family and not just a partner country.Mauritius is like 'Mini India'," Modi told the Indian diaspora.

Modi positioned Mauritius as a vital bridge connecting India to the Global South, a relationship reinforced by India's SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region) vision, first announced during his 2015 visit to the island nation.The Prime Minister announced the extension of Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to the seventh generation of Mauritians of Indian origin. He handed over OCI cards to Ramgoolam and his wife Veena at the beginning of the event.

The event featured a captivating cultural programme, with performances by artists from the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Mahatma Gandhi Institute and Anna Medical College. PM Modi also met Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool.Their talks covered key areas of cooperation, reinforcing the enduring friendship between India and Mauritius.They also visited the Ayurveda Garden at the State House, established in collaboration with the Government of India.
