The Lok Sabha has taken up discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address on Wednesday. Moving the discussion, BJP member Harish Dwivedi said the Centre is focused on generation of employment to millions of youth across the country with impartiality and fairness. He recounted the achievements of the Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the efforts to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya as commendable.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in the Presidential Address there is no mention about unemployment. He charged that the unorganized sector has taken a beating, while the MSMEs have been choked by the moves like demonetization, Covid-19 and the erroneous GST. Gandhi said the vision of Make in India can not be realized without the unorganized sector. He claimed that there has been 46 per cent drop in manufacturing jobs during the last five years. Rahul Gandhi accused the government of using the judiciary, the Election Commission, and Pegasus spyware as "instruments to destroy the voice of the union of states". Gandhi also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the "idea of a king is back". There are now two distinct Indias, he said, one for the rich and the other for the poor. "The gap between the two is growing," he said.Gandhi stressed the importance of cooperative federalism, conversation and negotiation and said that is the only way India has been ruled over the decades. "Congress smashed the idea of a king in 1947, but now that has come back. There is a vision that India can be ruled by a stick from the Centre. Every time that has happened, the stick has been broken," he said. Debate was going on when report was filed.
