Inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin throw meet postponed

The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, scheduled for May 24 at Bengaluru’s Kanteerava Stadium, has been postponed due to safety concerns amidst the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the organisers announced on Friday. “In light of the current situation, the inaugural edition of the NC Classic stands postponed until further notice,” the organisers stated. “This decision has been made after careful thought and consultation, with the well-being of athletes, stakeholders and the broader community as the top priority.” A revised schedule for NC Classic 2025 - classified as a World Athletics ‘A’ category meet - will be shared in due course. Jointly organised by Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sports, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and World Athletics (WA), the NC Classic will be the highest-tier international athletics competition hosted in India.

A world-class javelin throw field, headlined by Tokyo 2020 Olympic and reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra, was set to compete at the inaugural edition of the meet. Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, Rio 2016 gold medallist Thomas Rohler of Germany and 2015 world champion Julius Yego of Kenya were also confirmed fir the event. Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena had also confirmed his participation.
