Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that Government has emphasized on re-introducing traditional food items including millet, other nutritious cereals, fruits and vegetables, fish, dairy and organic products in the diet of the people.He said, their production has been phenomenal in India in recent years and India is becoming a destination country for healthy food items. He was speaking at the second day's session of the G-20 Agriculture Ministers' meeting. The theme of this session was "Working together to achieve the Zero Hunger goal: successful projects implemented by the Ministries of Agriculture". In his virtual address, Tomar said that keeping in mind the importance of Nutri-cereals, the United Nations has accepted the proposal of the Government and declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets. He appealed to the nations to support the celebration of Millet Year to promote nutrition and sustainable agriculture. Tomar stated that the agriculture sector in India has achieved great success after independence. The Indian agriculture sector remained unaffected even during the COVID pandemic.
-The 10-day Ganesh festival culminates on Sunday with the immersion of Lord Ganesha idols in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and other parts of the state. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the immersion ceremony took place with restrictions on crowd gathering and processions. The state government has allowed only 10 fully vaccinated members from public pandals to be part of the group who would be carrying idols to the immersion spots. Adequate deployment of police force was done across the city and at the immersion spots to prevent any untoward incident. Members of the public pandals have been encouraged to adhere to the COVID appropriate behavior. Processions during immersion ceremony use to be the hallmark in the past. The BMC and civic bodies in the state on their part have set up artificial ponds to facilitate devotees to immerse their household Ganesha idols.
-West Bengal has crossed another milestone in vaccination by crossing the figure of administering 5 crore doses. The state health department also ensured at least one dose to 50 percent of the eligible population so far. Around 3 crore 60 lakh persons have got the first dose while more than 1 crore 46 lakh have received the second dose. Cumulatively, 5 crore 6 lakh 57 thousand doses have been administered against Covid-19 till date.
-India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Maharashtra's Vidarbha and the Mumbai region from Monday. Senior Scientist at the Regional meteorological centre, Dr. Shubhangi Bhute said, a cyclonic circulation is developing over the Bay of Bengal. As it intensifies further, Maharashtra will get more rains starting September 20. She said that the Vidarbha region would receive the showers first.Though it would cover mostly the northern stretch of the state from east to west, there could be very heavy showers at couple of places. She also said that there will be showers over North Maharashtra followed by the coastal districts of Palghar, Thane and Mumbai.
-In Madhya Pradesh all government and non-government schools from class I to class V are set to reopen from Monday after about 18 months. Sanitization work was done along with the cleanliness of the schools before they begin. With the opening of the school, classes will be conducted in primary schools with 50% capacity. the written consent of parents will be mandatory in schools. Meanwhile, the third phase of the covid Vaccination Maha Abhiyan is going on full swing in the state. A target has been set to finish the first dose of vaccine to every eligible person in the state by September 26th.
