Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren on Thursday took oath as Chief Minister, days after the INDIA bloc's decisive victory in the Assembly polls. Top leaders of the INDIA Opposition bloc were in Ranchi's Moradabad Ground to attend the swearing-in ceremony.Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a host of prominent political leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren. Soren’s victory in the recent assembly polls saw the JMM-led alliance secure 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, with the BJP-led NDA winning only 24. Schools in Ranchi city were closed on Thursday in view of the swearing in of the Hemant Soren government.
