A new chapter in the modernisation of India’s cooperative and dairy ecosystem began on Wednesday with the launch of Amul AI, an artificial intelligence–driven digital platform aimed at transforming agriculture, animal husbandry and the dairy sector. The initiative is expected to play a key role in making the sector technologically advanced and self-reliant, in line with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.Inaugurating Amul AI at a large gathering of dairy farmers and cooperative members in Anand, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the initiative marks a major milestone in strengthening the cooperative ecosystem by seamlessly integrating farmers, technology and governance. He said Amul AI reflects the broader vision of leveraging technology to empower rural communities and enhance farmers’ incomes. The launch event was attended by Gujarat Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Jitu Vaghani, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Raman Solanki, Minister of State Kamlesh Patel, and senior office bearers of the Gujarat State Milk Marketing Federation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the pace of India’s development has accelerated significantly over the past decade due to the convergence of government initiatives, cooperative strength and technology. Drawing a parallel with the digital payments revolution, he said the widespread adoption of UPI — from small traders to street vendors — demonstrated how technology can bring transformational change when aligned with public welfare. He added that the same model is now being extended to artificial intelligence, which will further strengthen the cooperative and dairy ecosystem. According to him, the focus has consistently remained on bringing farmers, animal husbandry workers and rural communities into the mainstream of development.Referring to the Union Budget 2026, the Chief Minister said the budget, structured around three core duties, has prioritised the interests of milk producers. He highlighted a special provision to train 20,000 veterinary professionals, aimed at strengthening the dairy ecosystem and improving animal healthcare services across the country.
The Chief Minister said Amul has already embraced digital transformation to ensure higher incomes for its members. By integrating data related to farmers, milk producers and animal husbandry into a robust IT framework, Amul is now ready to leverage artificial intelligence to deliver what he described as “Advantage India” in the global dairy landscape. He also pointed to recent global trade agreements with the United States and the European Union, noting that the exclusion of dairy product imports from these deals would protect the livelihoods of over 10 crore small and marginal farmers dependent on milk production. He expressed confidence that these policy decisions would help India rapidly scale milk production and move closer to becoming the dairy hub of the world.Describing Amul AI as a step towards indigenous, self-reliant technological solutions, the Chief Minister said innovation and technology will be the driving forces of the economy in the coming years, with cooperatives playing a leading role alongside agriculture and rural development.
Addressing the gathering, Shankar Chaudhary said Anand holds a special place in India’s cooperative history as the birthplace of the White Revolution. He termed the launch of Amul AI and the newly introduced Sarala mobile application as landmark developments, noting that farmers will now be able to access real-time information on milk fat, SNF and daily accounts through their phones. He also underlined the importance of protecting domestic dairy farmers from international competition.Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Jitu Vaghani called the launch a historic moment for Gujarat and the dairy sector. He said Amul AI is poised to become one of the world’s largest AI-based applications in the dairy space. He added that just as smartphones and digital payments became part of daily life, artificial intelligence will now become integral to the lives of farmers associated with animal husbandry. Highlighting reforms in the cooperative sector, he said direct benefit transfers have significantly improved financial inclusion, particularly for women farmers. At the start of the programme, the Chief Minister formally launched the Amul AI digital platform remotely, followed by the screening of a short film showcasing its features and potential impact. The event concluded with addresses by senior Amul officials, including the Managing Director and the developer of the Amul AI application. The programme witnessed the participation of senior state officials, members of the Amul Board, legislators, cooperative leaders and a large number of women farmers, underlining the sector-wide significance of the initiative.
