Govt assures no energy shortage for domestic consumers

The Government has assured that there is no energy shortage for domestic consumers in the country, and there is no reason to panic. The government is committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of affordable energy to domestic consumers of the country. In a social media post, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday highlighted that India’s energy imports are continuing to flow in from different sources and routes.
In light of current geopolitical disruptions to fuel supply and constraints on the supply of LPG, the Government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act 1955 to regulate the production, maintain supply, equitable distribution and availability of natural gas for priority sectors. According to the invoked Act, the supply shall be maintained subject to operational availability to 100 per cent of their average past six-month gas consumption. It steps to ensure a 100 per cent supply of CNG and PNG to domestic consumers, whereas other industries continue to get 70 to 80 per cent of their supplies.
The government has prioritised domestic LPG supply to households and introduced a 25-day inter-booking period to avoid hoarding and black marketing. Meanwhile, non-domestic supplies of imported LPG are being prioritised for essential non-domestic sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that a committee of three executive directors of oil marketing companies has been formed to review representations regarding LPG supply to other non-domestic sectors, including restaurants, hotels, and other industries. Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum have said that steps have been taken to enhance LPG production and prioritise its availability for domestic consumers and essential non-domestic sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
