Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has said that the Centre has no role in IT raids at two media houses. Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Thursday, he said that agencies do their own work, we don't interfere in their functioning. I would also like to say that facts need to be found before reporting about any incident. Sometimes lack of information is misleading. Meanwhie, taxmen searched around 30 locations of two media houses in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat UP and Rajasthan. The homes and offices of the group's promoters were also raided to examine tax documents.
Giving details of the Union cabinet decisions, Thakur on Thursday said a Central university will be set up in the newly formed Union Territory of Ladakh, as well as an integrated multi-purpose infrastructure development corporation. The decision was taken with “an aim of addressing regional imbalances in higher education level and stimulating the society of Ladakh.” The Cabinet also approved the creation of one post of managing director for the corporation. The authorized share capital of the corporation will be Rs25 crore and recurring expenditure will be around Rs 2.42 crore per year. The corporation will work for industry, tourism, transport and marketing of local products and handicraft. Corporation will also work as the main construction agency for infrastructure development in Ladakh, he said.
The government has also approved a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for specialty steel in an initiative aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and exports and cutting down the import burden for the sector, Thakur said. The scheme will be applicable for five years from 2023-24 to 2027-28.
