Gomti project:CBI conducts raids in UP, Rajasthan & Bengal

After registering a case, the CBI on Monday conducts searches over 40 locations in UP, Rajasthan and West Bengal in alleged Rs 407 crore corruption case. On UP government request the agency has registered a case against 189 accused relating to “Gomti River Channelization Project” and “Gomti River Front Development Project” by Irrigation Department. The case has been registered under relevant Sections of IPC & PC Act against 16 public servants including then Chief Engineers/Superintending Engineers of Uttar Pradesh Government and 173 private persons.According to information in its second FIR, related to irregularities in the Rs 1,437-crore Gomti river front development project in Lucknow, the agency has booked 189 officials and contractors. An earlier FIR has already covered work orders worth over Rs 1,031 crore.

According to CBI Spokesperson searches were conducted at a 42 locations including Lucknow, Sitapur, Raebareilly, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Agra, Bulandshahar, Etah, Moradabad, Meerut, Etawah (all in Uttar Pradesh) and Alwar(Rajasthan), Kolkata(West Bengal) at the premises of accused including the then Chief Engineers, then Superintending Engineers, the then Executive Engineer, the then Assistant Engineer and the private contractors, firms and companies.  During searches, incriminating documents/articles have been recovered. The said projects were completed during the Samajwadi Party government.
