BJP bags both Bengal seats, leads in Assam; TVK wins Dharapuram

The BJP win in the by-elections has proved that the Congress-led INDIA bloc's agitation against SIR, vote theft and the CEC could not gather sympathy for its candidates, and voters from Assam to West Bengal, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu reposed their faith in the ruling dispensation. The BJP won both Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly seats in West Bengal, while its candidate was leading in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, according to Election Commission of India (ECI) results. In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won the Dharapuram seat and was leading in Madurantakam. In Puducherry, the All India N.R. BJP Wins Muslim-Majority Rejinagar by Over 75,000 Votes
The BJP registered a significant victory in Rejinagar, a Muslim-majority constituency in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, defeating the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) by 75,816 votes.BJP candidate Shankharavh Sarkar secured 1,29,914 votes, while AJUP nominee Golam Nabi Azad received 54,098 votes, according to ECI results. The party also won Nandigram, where its candidate Hasirani Rath secured 1,64,427 votes, according to the Election Commission. The results are significant as the BJP seeks to consolidate its position in West Bengal after ending the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule in the state.

The bypolls were closely watched for indications of the BJP's electoral strength as the ruling party and the condition of the Opposition amid a divided political landscape. The polling process, however, witnessed allegations of voter intimidation, irregularities at polling booths and sporadic clashes. The arrest of AJUP chief Humayun Kabir following a confrontation with police in Rejinagar, along with the Congress's demand for repolling in both constituencies, raised concerns over the conduct of the bypolls. The Election Commission described polling as more or less peaceful.
Vijay's TVK Wins Dharapuram; Stalin Alleges Model Code Violation
In Tamil Nadu, TVK candidate P Sathyabama won the Dharapuram Assembly seat, defeating DMK's S Suganya by 9,471 votes. DMK chief and former Chief Minister MK Stalin alleged that Vijay violated the Model Code of Conduct by announcing welfare initiatives after the bypolls were notified. Stalin also accused the ruling party of using pressure tactics against voters.Vijay had addressed a public meeting in each constituency and held roadshows in Madurantakam and Dharapuram during the campaign.

In Assam, the BJP was leading in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 76.19% among its 19.05 lakh electors. The bypoll was necessitated after Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned and subsequently contested the Assembly elections from Dispur on a BJP ticket earlier this year. The key candidates included former Congress MLA Sibamoni Bora, former IAS officer Devasish Sharma of the BJP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal.

The bypoll results across the states and Puducherry are being closely watched for their implications for the ruling parties and Opposition formations in the respective regions.
