The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that except Europe, all the regions across the world reported a decline in Coronavirus cases. In Europe, the numbers of cases this week were almost similar to the corresponding previous week. According to the WHO's latest assessment, there were a total of 3.1 million new Covid-19 cases last week and about 54,000 deaths, registering.a fall of 9% in fresh infection cases. The fatalities were roughly similar to the weekly death toll in the previous week. Continuing a declining global trend that first began in August.
According to the data, the largest decline in cases was in the African region, where the infection fell by about 43%. Middle East and Southeast Asia logged a dip in their Covid-19 cases by about 20%. In the Americas and the Western Pacific there was nearly decline of 12% in the cases of infections. The number of new weekly deaths reported showed an over 15 percent decline for all regions except for the European Region and the African Region. The largest decline in weekly deaths was reported from the Western Pacific Region, with a 24 percent decline as compared to the previous week. On Monday, the European Medicines Agency gave its endorsement to EU countries offering a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot to people 18 and over.
Russia's daily coronavirus death toll surpassed 900 on Wednesday for the first time in the pandemic, a record that comes amid the country's low vaccination rate and the government's reluctance to impose tough restrictions to control new cases. Singapore's health ministry reported 3,486 new cases, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic.
