Senior Odisha Congress leader and former MLA Mohammed Moquim has been expelled from the party for anti-party activities after he openly challenged the state leadership, an Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) leader said on Monday.According to information,OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das confirmed that Moquim’s removal was approved by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) following a proposal sent by the state unit. “This is for the information of all concerned that the AICC has approved the proposal for the expulsion of Md. Moquim from the primary membership of the party due to anti-party activities,” Das said in a statement.
Moquim, who earlier represented the Barabati–Cuttack assembly constituency, had recently questioned the functioning of the OPCC leadership and written a letter to senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. He subsequently made the letter public and shared his views with television channels.Congress sources said taking internal party issues to public platforms amounts to a breach of party discipline and is not the appropriate way to raise such matters. Following these developments, Das had recommended to the central leadership that strict action be taken against Moquim.“The proposal was accepted by the AICC after concluding that his actions constituted a violation of party discipline,” according to sources.
