After a three hours marathon meeting, between Navjot Sidhu and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in Chandigarh on Thursday, In Punjab, a decision on a coordination committee seems to have resolved the tension. According to sources Sidhu has agreed to stay on as the party's state unit chief. There is a buzz that the three-member committee might comprise Harish Chaudhary, the Chief Minister and Sidhu. "Everything is fine," Pargat Singh told the media after the meeting.
During the meeting held at the Punjab Bhawan, Sidhu reportedly demanded the removal of the director general of police (DGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and Punjab’s advocate general APS Deol. Sidhu had objected to him over the investigation into the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in 2015 - which was one of his biggest grouses against the Amarinder Singh government. Mr Sahota was the head of a Special Investigation Team to probe the incidents of sacrilege.Thursday’s meeting was held after Sidhu abruptly resigned as the Congress Punjab unit chief on September 28, thrusting the party into a fresh crisis.
