As per reports, President Biden first nominated Garcetti, a co-chair of his 2020 presidential campaign and later his inaugural committee, to serve in the post in July 2021. Garcetti's candidacy was long in limbo over concerns about his handling of a sexual harassment scandal involving a former aide. Garcetti will succeed Ken Juster, who resigned in Jan 2021, following the change in presidency from Donald Trump to Joe Biden. Reacting to the Senate confirming his appointment, the 52-year-old remarked he was 'ready and eager to begin my service representing our critical interests in India.'
