Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon all democratic nations to work together on crypto-currency and ensure it does not end up in wrong hands, which can spoil youth.Modi said that as a democracy and digital leader, India is ready to work with partners for its shared prosperity and security. Delivering his the keynote address at the Sydney Dialogue on Thursday, Modi gave a roadmap for democracies to work together that recognizes national rights and at the same time, promote trade, investment and larger public good. He said that India's digital revolution is rooted in country's democracy, demography and the scale of our economy. He added that it is powered by enterprise and innovation of country's youth. The Prime Minister said that the Digital Age is changing everything around us and it has redefined politics, economy and society. He said, it is raising new questions of sovereignty, governance, ethics, laws, rights, and security. He mentioned that it is reshaping international competition, power and leadership and has ushered in a new era of opportunities for progress and prosperity.
Modi said that India is turning the challenges of the past into an opportunity to take a leap into the future. The Prime Minister listed five important transitions taking place in India. They are development of extensive public information infrastructure, use of digital technology for governance and delivery of benefits and welfare, fastest growing Start-up Eco-system, massive digital transformation in industry and services sectors, and investment in developing indigenous capabilities in telecom technology. He highlighted that the government is building the world's most extensive public information infrastructure. He said, over 1.3 billion Indians have a unique digital identity and we are on our way to connect six lakh villages with broadband.
On Thursday PM Modi also addressed the First Global Innovation Summit of the Pharmaceuticals sector through video conferencing. Terming the Indian Pharma Industry a key driver of country's economic growth, Modi said, high quality and quantity at affordable prices has generated immense interest in the Indian pharma sector around the world. He said, the Indian healthcare sector has attracted over 12 billion US dollar foreign direct investment since 2014. Highlighting the role of Indian pharma sector during the Covid-19 pandemic, Modi said, the Indian pharmaceutical industry has also risen to the challenge. He said the global trust earned by the Indian healthcare sector has led to India being called the pharmacy of the world. He said India exported life saving medicines and medical equipments to over 150 countries during the initial phase of the pandemic. He added more than 65 million doses of Covid vaccines have been exported to nearly 100 countries. Modi said, our definition of wellness is not limited by physical boundaries but India believes in the well-being of the entire humankind. He asserted that India has shown this spirit to the whole world during the Covid-19 global pandemic.The Prime Minister said India has a large pool of scientists and technologists with a potential to take the pharma industry to greater heights. He invited the stakeholders to Ideate in India, Innovate in India, Make in India and Make for the World.
Chemical and Fertilizers Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said India is focussing on innovation and R&D of finished products in the pharma sector. He said India has announced various production-linked incentive schemes for pharma sector which will make the country self-reliant in the pharma and medical equipment sector.
