The Election Commission on Saturday announced bye polls to one Parliamentary Constituency and four assembly constituencies in West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Maharashtra. In West Bengal, the bye-election will be held for Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and Ballygunge Assembly seat. Bye polls will be held for Khairagarh assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan seat in Bihar and Kohlapur North assembly constituency in Maharashtra. The election commission has said, the last date of nomination for these seats will be 24th March, and the last date of withdrawal of candidature will be 28th of March.The polling will be held on 12th April and date of counting of votes is 16th April.
-Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, has communicated performances of term-1 of class X to the schools. The board on Saturday said, only scores in theory have been communicated as internal assessment or practical scores are already available with the schools. In a circular, the board has said the term 1 examinations were conducted as per schedule. It said, in case, the students missed their term-1 exam due to covid or because of the participation in national and international sporting events or olympiads, no performance of term-1 exam is being communicated. It added, the final performance of the students will be assessed based on performances in term-2 examination. CBSE said, no mark sheet cum passing certificate is being issued now. Only one mark sheet cum passing certificate will be issued after term-2 examination to bring parity with the previous results. The board added that this will be comprising of total marks of both the terms as weightage decided of the term-1 and term-2 examination and accordingly final performances will be calculated.
-Road Transport and Highways Ministry has issued draft notification related to Motor Vehicles Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scrapping Facility Amendment Rules 2022. These amendments lay down the procedure for establishment of Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility. The notification states that registered vehicle owners shall apply digitally for vehicle scrapping. Road Transport and Highways Ministry said, all applications for vehicle scrapping shall be submitted digitally and Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility will act as facilitation centres to help vehicle owners.
-Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur reviewed the progress on the National Optical Fibre Network, NOFN, scheme for connecting all the 193 Gram panchayats in the Union Territory. In New Delhi, he held meeting with NOFN, BSNL, Universal Service Obligation Fund, USOF, Bharat Broadband Network Limited, BBNL and the private mobile operators for improvement of connectivity in Ladakh, especially the remote and difficult uncovered areas, along the National Highways and tourists routes. Mathur directed the BharatNet to improve the bandwidth of VSATs installed in several villages in Ladakh to provide better services to the students and public in general. However, he stressed for OFC-based connectivity under BharatNet project. Deputy Director-General, USOF informed that upgradation of mobile connectivity of BSNL and other private operators, from 2G to 4G would be considered in the existing tender.
-Seven people have died in a fire incident in the Gokulpuri area in the national capital on Saturday. According to fire officials a call was received around 1 AM about the fire which broke out in the shanties. A total of 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was finally doused at 4 AM and seven charred bodies were found at the spot. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said, the government will give 10 lakh rupees to the families of the deceased who lost their lives in the fire incident in Gokulpuri area. Kejriwal said, five lakh rupees will be given to the families of the deceased children and 25,000 rupees to those whose houses destroyed in fire. Terming fire incident tragic, he said, many people lost their homes and loved ones in this accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the tragic fire incident in Delhi's Gokulpuri area. In a tweet on Saturday, Modi said, the fire incident in Gokulpuri is heart-wrenching. The Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident.
