Barricades on the Chilla (Delhi-Noida) border were removed a group of farmers' leaders met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi. The border is now open for traffic. In a press statement on Sunday, the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha said the decision to open Chilla border for traffic movement was taken by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) which is not part of the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha. Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar was also present for the meeting.
The farmers' leaders reportedly presented an 18-point charter of demands. It included the demand for setting up a commission. It is said that the charter did not mention the issue of MSP that been the bone of contention between the government and protesting farmers.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has scaled up security by deploying extra personnel and putting in place multi-layered barricades at various border points in view of the call given by farmers to intensify their protest against the Centre's new farm laws and block the Jaipur-Delhi highway.The farmers have said they will sit on a hunger strike on December 14, when they have called for a nationwide protest.
