Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that this is the perfect moment for India to lead global creativity. Modi inaugurated the first World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Thursday.Calling WAVES a “wave of culture, connectivity, and universal collaboration,” PM Modi said the summit was not just an event but a movement — one that unites storytellers and creators across borders and offers immense opportunities for economic growth. “This is the right time to create in India and create for the world,” the Prime Minister said in his keynote address. Like Indian 'khana', I am sure Indian 'gaana' will also become globally popular, he said, adding the screen size may be becoming mini but the message (India's stories) is becoming mega. He added, "Even though the screen size is getting smaller, the scope is becoming infinite." Modi said,Content, Creativity and Culture are the three pillars of the Orange Economy and this is the dawn of the Orange Economy in India.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the WAVES summit will create new economic opportunities. Vaishnaw said, this Summit will provide a global platform to creators and provide them with exposure to new technology. The Minister said it will connect the creators to buyers and investors around the world. Vaishnaw added that the Indian Institute of Creative Technology will be set up in Mumbai with a funding of 400 crore rupees. He said, WAVES and the Indian Institute of Creative Technology will further strengthen Mumbai’s role as a key centre in the global creative ecosystem.
WAVES 2025 integrates cinema, OTT, gaming, animation, immersive technologies (AVGC-XR), artificial intelligence, digital media, and more, and is expected to unlock a $50 billion opportunity for India’s media and entertainment sector by 2029. The four-day summit will feature over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300 companies, and more than 350 startups.
