The Congress Working Commitee(CWC) passed a resolution demanding the repeal of three agri laws immediately, which the party said, are anti farmers. But the CWC pushed the internal elections ahead again by four months. The Congress elections will be held now in May after the assembly elections of five states -- West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry -- are over. Some members reportedly said , CWC members said that the party needs to complete its internal polls by February as this will give enough time for the new team to prepare for the polls. Finally, the second group prevailed. The schedule, however, is only for the election of Congress President and Sonia Gandhi will take the final decision, say leaders.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has decided that there will be a new elected Congress president in June 2021, KC Venugopal told reporters after a meeting of the party's top decision-making body in New Delhi on Friday. In the last working committee meeting, the party high command was facing an unprecedented rebellion and was under pressure to announce internal elections to the post of party chief. Sonia Gandhi is the interim chief on the party since May 2019. According to political analysts the party's inability to look beyond the Gandhi's has been one of its worst undoings and has cost it election after election.
