Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced the revival of the traditional bi-annual Darbar Move after a gap of more than four years. Addressing a press conference in Jammu on Thursday, Abdulla said the state cabinet had given its nod to resume the century-old tradition and the file was approved by the Lieutenant Governor. The Darbar Move practice, which involves shifting the capital between Jammu and Srinagar with the change of season, was halted by the Lieutenant Governor’s administration in 2021.

The government’s decision marks the return of one of J&K’s oldest administrative traditions. The Apni Party President, Syed Altaf Bukhari, hailed the government’s decision to resume the traditional biannual Darbar Move. He said it preserves Jammu and Kashmir’s historic legacy and socio-cultural fabric.
Abdullah also informed that his government is in discussions with the Centre to carry out a detailed survey aimed at identifying cloudburst-prone areas and recommending countermeasures. he said the stste government is looking for a comprehensive package from the Centre to reconstruct the infrastructure severely damaged by the flash floods last month, which caused significant destruction.
