Chhattisgarh man hoisted flag on I-Day, killed in Naxal ‘Jan Adalat’

In a shocking incident, a villager who had participated in Independence Day celebrations in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district was killed by Naxalites after being accused of helping the police, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Manish Nureti, a resident of Binagunda village under Chhotebetiya police station limits. According to police, a group of armed Naxalites entered the village on Monday and forcibly took Nureti along with two others.“They conducted a so-called ‘jan adalat’ where Nureti was killed, while the other two were released after being beaten. The Maoist group also put up a poster labeling Nureti a police informer, which is completely untrue,” an official said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) I.K. Elesela said Nureti’s body was yet to be recovered and his family was being contacted. “Naxalites often frequent Binagunda village. In the last 18 months, they have killed four to five villagers on similar allegations of being informers. None of those victims had any link with the police,” he added.Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P confirmed the development and stated that a video had surfaced showing Nureti taking part in Independence Day celebrations. “A probe is underway, and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” the IG asserted.A short video that went viral on social media earlier showed villagers, including children, hoisting the Tricolour and raising patriotic slogans of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” Police sources said the act angered Naxalites, who viewed the flag-hoisting as defiance.
