Cabinet approves affiliation of 100 schools with Sainik School Society

The Centre has asked States to utilise unallocated power of the Central Generating Stations- CGS only to meet the power requirement of their own Consumers. It has been brought to the notice of Ministry of Power that some States are not supplying power to their consumers and imposing load shedding.  At the same time, they are also selling power in the power exchange at high price. Ministry of Power in a statement said that as per the guidelines for allocation of power, 15 per cent power from the Central Generating Stations are kept under “unallocated power” which is allocated by the Central Government to the needy States to meet the requirement of power of the consumers. It said, the responsibility to supply power to the consumers is of the distribution companies and they should first serve their consumers who have the right to receive 24×7 power. Thus, the distribution companies should not sell the power in the power exchange and starve their own consumers. The Ministry added that the States have been requested to use the unallocated power for supplying electricity to the consumers of the State. In case of surplus power, the States have been requested to intimate to the Government of India so that this power can be reallocated to other needy State.

-Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the affiliation of one hundred Schools in the government and private sector with the Sainik School Society.These Schools function as an exclusive vertical which will be distinct and different from existing Sainik Schools. In the first phase, 100 affiliate partners are proposed to be drawn from States, NGOs and Private partners. Marching ahead in tune with National Education Policy, the Government has decided to provide an increased focus on value-based education enabling children to develop pride in the rich culture and heritage of this nation, effective leadership with character, discipline, sense of national duty and patriotism. Beginning from the academic year 2022-23 approximately five thousand students are expected to receive admission in class six in such 100 affiliated Schools. At present, the existing 33 Sainik Schools have an admission capacity of approximately three thousand students in class six.

-The Union Cabinet also approved the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) till 2025-26. The Cabinet said, providing reliable and affordable water supply and sanitation services to urban households is a national priority. The decision is a step towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat and with aim of making the cities water-secure and self-sustainable through a circular economy of water. This will be achieved by providing functional tap connections to all households, undertaking water source conservation, rejuvenation of water bodies and wells, recycle and re-use of treated used water and rainwater harvesting. AMRUT Mission was launched in June 2015 to facilitate ease of living to citizens in 500 cities by providing tap connections and sewer connections. So far, more than one crore ten lakh household tap connections and 85 lakh sewer connections have been provided.Taking forward the remarkable strides made under AMRUT, AMRUT 2.0, targets universal coverage of water supply by providing household tap connections in all four thousand 378 statutory towns.

-The Karnataka State Higher Education Council has entered into an MoU with the National Association of Software and Service Companies, NASSCOM to provide industry-suited skill training to the youth. The Minister for Higher Education Dr. C N Ashwatha Narayana was present on this occasion. Speaking to media persons, the minister informed that the MoU will benefit over five lakh students studying in the institutions of higher learning in Karnataka every year. The skill training courses are designed as per the national occupational standards of the National Skills Qualification Framework. Both faculty and students can have free access to the course materials in the online mode. By this agreement, the students of higher learning can now study subjects related to digital fluency, artificial intelligence and cyber security. The minister pointed out that the lack of digital talent among those engaged in the IT service industry is a challenge that has to be resolved if the full potential has to be reached.

-Union Home Ministry on Tuesday began tripartite talks with the Gorkha representatives from the Darjeeling Hills, Terai and Dooars region and the Government of West Bengal. The talks aimed at resolving the issues related to the Gorkhas were chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah. The Gorkha delegation was led by Darjeeling MP Raju Bisht and highlighted various issues concerning the Gorkhas and the region. Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly making efforts to resolve issues related to the Gorkhas and of the region. He listened to all the parties concerned and has decided to call for the second round of talks in the presence of the senior officials of the Government of West Bengal in November this year. The West Bengal Government has been specifically asked to send their senior officials for the next round of talks. The Minister said, the all-around development and prosperity of the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region is the topmost priority of the Modi Government.
