In Punjab,Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed after one of them indiscriminately opened fire at his colleagues on Sunday morning at Amritsar. The shooter, identified as Ct Satteppa S K, of 144 Battalion was among those who died in the incident. Another personnel is also injured and in critical condition. The incident took place at the force mess in the Khasa area, about 20 km short of the Attari-Wagah border crossing along the India-Pakistan international front. In the firing 2 Jawans were killed at the spot while three succumbed to their injuries during treatment at IVY hospital where they were taken for treatment immediately after the incident.
The 5 Jawans who were killed in the unfortunate incident were Ram Vinod, Baljinder Singh, Ratan Chand, B S Jasker, and Nihal Singh. Senior officers of the border force have rushed to the spot, according to reports. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts. The incident occurred at 10:15 am and victims were declared brought dead at a private hospital at 11 am. It is said constable Setteppa SK of ‘B’ Coy used his duty weapon and started firing on his colleagues in the GF and the ORS barracks. Khasa is one of the busiest headquarters of the BSF in Punjab with the Integrated Check Post between India and Pakistan under its jurisdiction and the charge of the beating retreat ceremony arrangements.
