Meghalaya cabinet on Wednesday has approved the recommendations of three regional committees, namely West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, East and West Jaintia Hills along with the recommendation of the Assam Government which will be submitted to the Union Home Minister on Thursday evening with regard to the long-pending border dispute between the neighbouring States.Following a cabinet meeting at Shillong this afternoon, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, the Government felt strongly that apart from historical facts, it is important to keep the sentiments of the people in mind. He added, the regional committees had meticulously gone and visited 36 villages in six areas where the dispute is about 36.79 sq km.It may be recalled that The regional committees have been formed to examine the present status of the six areas of differences Tarabari, Gizang and Hahim in West Khasi Hills district, Boklapara and Khanapara-Pilingkata in Ri Bhoi district, and Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills district.
-Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav has said that ensuring safety, security and welfare of the working class is critical in making the country an AatmaNirbhar Bharat. Yadav was interacting with national level office-bearers of Unorganized Workers’ Unions and Associations on the problems and issues of unorganized workers through video Conference. on Wednesday. The representatives of construction workers, domestic workers, textile workers, municipal workers, transport workers, street vendors, brick-kiln workers and railway malgodam workers participated in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Bhupender Yadav said, government has been working relentlessly and sincerely for the welfare and upliftment of unorganised workers. He said, in just over 200 days nearly 23 crore unorganised workers have registered themselves on eShram portal. The Minister informed that in view of the resurgence of COVID-19 and subsequent imposition of certain restrictions by State Governments, the Ministry has re - activated the 21 Monitoring Centres. He said, the functioning of the centers is being monitored and supervised at Headquarters on daily basis.
-The National Commission for Minorities has said, four persons have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the stone pelting incident on Sikh devotees who went to attend ‘Prakash Parv’ in Patna on 16th of this month. Chairman of the Commission, Iqbal Singh Lalpura said that the Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of media reports regarding stone pelting on sikh devotees. He said, a case has been registered against 11 named and 15 unknown persons involved in stone pelting. Mr Lalpura said, injured were provided medical aid immediately and escorted up to Bihar border on the same day and they reached Punjab. He said the secretary, Bihar, has also assured safety of the minority communities residing and visiting Bihar.
-In Manipur, BJP has said that the party will not betray its alliances and efforts will be made to avoid Hung Assembly after the forthcoming General Elections to 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. Speaking to media persons, the spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh Chongtham Bijoy said, apart from Congress and CPI, BJP have friendly relations and alliances with the other political parties in Manipur. A stable state government is necessary for the better development, economic growth and peace in Manipur. BJP expects that there will be no Hung Assembly after the forthcoming poll in Manipur. Bijoy said, BJP will expect that the people of Manipur will trust the party and the party is expected to have a majority. However, the party will not betray its alliances. It may be mentioned that BJP won 21 seats in the last General Election held in Manipur and the party formed the coalition government with the support of Naga People's Front and National People's Party which won four seats each.
-A bust of Kargil War Hero, Capt Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous) was unveiled at Palampur Military Station. The bust was unveiled by GL Batra & Smt. Kamal Kanta Batra, parents of Capt Vikram Batra in presence of Lt Gen YK Joshi, GOC-in-C Northern Command, who was the Commanding Officer of 13 JAK RIF during the Kargil War. The commemoration was also graced by Maj Gen MP Singh, GOC Dah Division, Capt Vikram Batra’s school teachers namely Shri RS Guleria, Ms Suman Maini and Ms Neelam Vats along with some of his childhood friends. During the commemoration, the Army Commander recollected the undaunted courage of Capt Vikram Batra that inspired his men to fight valiantly and eventually led to successful capture of Point 5140, which further paved the way for a string of victories at Point 5100, Point 4700, Junction Peak and Three Pimple in Drass sector. He also mentioned about the crucial role played by Capt Vikram Batra for the capture of Point 4875, in which he assaulted on the enemy position along a narrow ridge that led to a fierce fight and killed five enemy soldiers at point blank range. With utter disregard to his personal safety, leading from the front, Capt Batra pressed on the attack to achieve a near impossible military task in the face of heavy enemy fire, and in keeping with the highest traditions of Indian Army, made the supreme sacrifice for which he was awarded with the highest gallantry award ‘Param Vir Chakra’.
