Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur inaugurated five days ‘First Himalayan Film Festival' on Friday in a star studded program at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Leh. The festival is a part of the celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The film festival will showcase talent across 12 Himalayan states and UTs.‘Shershaah’, the biographical war movie based on ‘Param Vir Chakra’ awardee Captain Vikram Batra is being screened in the opening ceremony. Anurag Thakur in his address said that cinema provides a platform to bring all the cultural diversities together, the new identity to every corner of India has been provided by the Indian Cinema.Praising the people of Ladakh for their valour, the Minister said that Ladakh is the region that has seen the Kargil war and this is the reason that the first Himalayan Film has been started from Ladakh that too with the opening of which depicts the life of a soldier, his valour, love for his motherland.The Minister further said that the Himalayan Region has made a lot of sacrifices for motherland and the proud moment for all of us is that the Param Vir Chakra winners have been from the Himalayan Region.Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, member of parliament from Leh in his address praised the efforts of Ministry of I&B and the administration of the UT of Ladakh for organizing this first ‘Himalayan Film Festival’ in Ladakh.
-Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay stands among top 22 per cent in the 2022 QS Graduate Employability Rankings. As per the release, in last one year, IIT Bombay has moved up in the range from 111-120 to 101-110 rankings in QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022. On employer reputation indicator, with a score of 73.9, IIT, Bombay ranked at 70th place globally.IITB’s Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri said, training at IITB emphasizes learning outcomes on developing skills for analytical problem solving, capability to address unseen problems and an appreciation for the constraints that beset a specific problem.
-In Tripura, a new steel stockyard is likely to come up at the declared Special Economic Zone at Sabroom in South Tripura.Union Minister of Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh while addressing media on Friday at Agartala said that a high level meeting has been held on the matter in the presence of the Steel Authority of India and officials of Tripura.The Minister said in the meeting, the strategic indicators of Tripura’s growth have been studied.He also said that after the state’s routes of connectivity will be opened with Bangladesh and access to Chittagong port will be eased, there is ample scope of expansion in infrastructure and steel being a very crucial component for infrastructure, the SAIL feels it should have a stockyard here.The Minister also highlighted several achievements of the state government and said that Tripura had progressed a long way in the last three years.
-Union Minister of State for Tourism, Culture & DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the State Soil Testing Laboratory at the Directorate of Social & Water Conservation in Kohima. Funded by North East Council, NEC Ministry of DoNER, the project cost is 371.70 lakh rupees with NEC share of 90 percent and 10 percent state share. Reddy in his address said Northeastern region has been a focus area of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said PM Modi calls North eastern states as Ashtalakshmi states as they symbolize different source of wealth. The Union Minister said, the Government of India has been at the forefront of ensuring that soil quality is effectively managed to make agriculture more productive, sustainable and climate resilient to conserve natural resources.He said the soil health dash board of the Agriculture ministry provides detailed information on various parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorus, PH, micro nutrients and others.
-In Bihar, the First Phase of Panchayat Elections passed off peacefully. An estimated sixty percent voting was recorded in Friday poll. Polling held in 170 Gram Panchayats spread over 10 districts including Gaya, Aurangabad and Munger. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state. For the first time, EVMs is being used in Panchayat polls in the state. Electoral fortune of 15 thousand 388 candidates sealed in EVMs. Counting of votes will take place on 26th and 27th of September. Second phase of polling will be on September 29.
